At the Parish Annual General Meeting, held on 18 July 1895, an envelope system was proposed to provide more consistent and regular income. It would appear news of this development may have stirred up debate about the simmering issue of pew-rents, as Parishioners' Churchwarden, Mr F. G. Moore, was at pains to explain that the proposed envelope system would not interfere with pew-rents.

St. Matthew's annual parochial meeting was held in the Schoolroom last night. The Rev. W. E. Paige occupied the chair, and opened the proceedings in the usual form.

The minutes of the last meeting were confirmed.

The Chairman said it gave him more than ordinary pleasure to meet them this year. The Vestry was able to say that the School was out of debt, there was a considerable balance to the Choir, and their general account debt was reduced.

It is possible a Church parade of the Volunteers will be held tomorrow morning at St Matthew's. Should this be the case, seat-holders on the vestry side will be asked to kindly allow their seats to be reserved for members of the Company attending. Special hymns will be chosen for the occasion.

The Church of England has done well of late years in discountenancing the custom of raffling in connection with her work. Not a single farthing for the last five years has been raised for St. Matthew's Church by the questionable means of raffling. There exists a Bible in Australia with a girl's name in, under which is written, "Won by casting dice in St. Ives Church, Huntingdonshire, 1767."

St Alban's Church, Taueru, 1913

ST ALBAN'S CHURCH.
TAUERU.

(Special to Daily Times.)

This pretty little church was formally opened, yesterday afternoon, by the Vicar of St. Matthew's [the Rev. Wyndham Earee]. Standing as it does a short distance from the main road, it forms a conspicuous object to all passers-by. Painted a light green, picked out with dark green facings with its roof of red Marseilles tiles, it looked quite a picture in the bright sunshine of yesterday. Inside, the mellow light from the stained glass windows contrasted well with the dark woodwork of the building. The acoustic properties of the building are excellent.
